Do I need a prescription for Retin-A or is there a product over the counter that has a good amount of tretinoin in it? I wouldn't mind going to a dermatologist to get a script but if there is something over the counter I could at least give it a shot to see if it can help some acne breakouts I have been experiencing. I found it confusing because there are a lot of over the counter skin care products that have retinol included in the ingredients. Retinol is similar to Retin-A but they aren't the same thing. From what I understand, retinol is a little bit safer to use and can be used effectively without a doctor's prescription. Retin-A is potentially dangerous and really should not be used without in depth instructions from a medical professional. When I spoke to my doctor about it, he said that the danger in using Retin-A without a prescription is that it is very difficult to tell normal side effects from potentially dangerous ones.
